Gambhir fit to bat despite concussion

LONDON: Gautam Gambhir will be fit to bat in the fourth Test against England at The Oval on Sunday after recovering from the mild concussion he sustained while dropping a catch.

Gambhir hit his head on the ground on Friday when he dropped Kevin Pietersen, who went on to make 175 in a 350-run partnership with Ian Bell.

Gambhir did not field or bat on Saturday's third day and was replaced in the field by Virat Kholi.

Team manager Anirudh Chaudhry said Gambhir had a "precautionary scan."

The batsman is now available to bolster a line-up that slumped to 103/5 in reply to England's 591/6 declared.
