The Kota Barrage is situated at a short distance of 0.8 km upstream form the city of Kota. The fourth dam in the chain of dams built by the Chambal Valley Project, Kota Barrage was constructed in the year of 1960.

An engineering marvel of the present times, Kota Barrage has a total storage capacity of 99 Mm³. Spread over a total catchment area of 27, 332 km², Kota Barrage serves numerous functions for the welfare of the region. The Kota Barrages further distributes the excess water released from the Rana Pratap Sagar Dam, Gandhi Dam and Jawahar Sagar Dam to the nieghbouring agricultural areas of Kota for purposes of irrigation and to some areas of Madhya Pradesh through proper canals.

An important source of irrigation, Kota Barrage releases 50% of its excess water to the neighbouring areas of Madhya Pradesh for enhancement of agricultural productivity. The right and the left canal of Kota Barrage releases water to accommodate the neighbouring agricultural fields of the state of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
