The North's Uriminzokkiri Twitter and Flickr accounts stopped sending out content typical of that posted by the regime in Pyongyang, such as photos of North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un meeting with military officials.

The London-based human rights group said Ali al-Khawaher, 24, was reported to have spent 10 years in jail waiting to be paralysed surgically unless his family pays one million Saudi riyals ($270,000) to the victim.

    Meerut: A class X student was allegedly raped by her tuition teacher at his home, prompting her to reportedly attempt suicide by consuming acid on Thursday, police said.

    The 16-year-old girl is said to be in critical condition, while the accused Prem Prakash (25) has been arrested, police said.

    The victim used to go to the teacher's home for tuition every day, they said.

    Ranchi: Five policemen were killed on Thursday in a gun battle with Maoist guerrillas in Jharkhand, police said.

    The incident took place at Chainpur town of Gumla district, some 170 km from Ranchi, when Maoists attacked a police party while it was patrolling a weekly market. They also looted three rifles of the policemen.

    Four police personnel were killed on the spot, while one died in hospital, an official said. Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state.
