Madhubani: A call centre is proving to be quite a lifeline for farmers in Madhubani in Bihar. It is an initiative by Delhi-based Drishti Foundation and is proving to be central to the economy of agriculture in the region.

It is a lifeline for the farmers of the Madhubani district, addressing their queries and problems on farming, seed selection, what fertiliser to use and using new-age techniques. The call centre by the Drishti foundation has helped the farmers take a huge leap of faith.

Chandigarh: Nearly 1.5 lakh students studying in Class 12 of government schools in Punjab will get tablet computers, a minister announced on Tuesday.

Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka said the state government will provide free computer tablets to all the 1.5 lakh students studying in Class 12 in government schools at a total cost of Rs.110 crore in the current financial year.

Maluka said satellite-based education (EDUSAT), earlier launched in 1,600 schools, is now being extended to all high and senior secondary schools in 2013.

New Delhi: Rising extremism in Pakistan is forcing Hindu families to flee the country and seek refuge in India. Their visas have expired, but the refugees are too scared to return. The Ministry of External Affairs has given them an extension of one month, but the question is whether that is enough.

It's a visa deadline that 20-year-old Jamuna says could turn into a death sentence for her. "I will die in India but will not return to Pakistan," Jamuna said.

"Available water must be managed judiciously to meet the twin burden of population growth and economic development. Conservation, balanced distribution and reclamation of used water are essential cogs in the wheel of water management," Mukherjee said while inaugurating the India Water Week 2013 with the theme 'Efficient Water Management: Challenges and Opportunities' organised here by the Ministry of Water Resources.

Satara: After being on the run for a fortnight, noted Marathi author and Padma Shri awardee Laxman Mane, booked in half a dozen separate rape cases, on Monday surrendered before the police here in western Maharashtra. Mane, who has rejected sexual assault charges levelled against him, went to Satara tehsil police station at around 4.00 pm and was arrested.
