NADA bans six relay team athletes for doping

New Delhi: The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has imposed a one-year ban on the women's 400 metres relay team comprising six Indian athletes for taking illegal drugs.

The ban will get over before the 2012 London Olympics, said Anish Dayal, the lawyer representing the athletes.

Dayal said that a complete reduction of the ban had been sought and that the decision was in their favour.

The banned athletes include:

Ashwini Akkunji - member of the 400 metres winning relay quartet of the 2010 Commonwealth games (CWG) and Asian Games.

Mandeep Kaur - part of the quartet that won gold in the 2010 CWG as well as the last year's Asian Games and the one held four years prior to that in Doha in 2006.

Sini Jose - a sprinter in the quartet that won gold in the 2010 CWG and Asiad.

Juana Murmu - a relay runner who was the finalist in the 400 metres hurdles in the 2010 Asian Games and is a second time offender.

Tiana Mary Thomas - national level athlete

Priyanka Pawar - national level athlete
