    The Syrian regime plans to deploy chemical weapons against its own people "as a last resort", the former head of Syria's chemical arsenal told a newspaper in an interview published on Wednesday.

    Major-General Adnan Sillu said he defected from the Syrian army three months ago after
    being party to top-levels talks about the use of chemical weapons on both rebel fighters and civilians.

    Houston: Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams set yet another record as she completed a triathlon in space by running, biking and "swimming" along with athletes during the Nautica Malibu Triathlon held in Southern California over the weekend.

    "A big shout out to our astronaut strength and conditioning folks, who were really interested in this and who got this whole workout together," Williams said, thanking the NASA Exercise Lab staff and neurosurgeon Sanjay Gupta, CNN's medical correspondent who trained with Williams before her launch and completed the race in Malibu.

    Kabul: A suicide bomber rammed a small sedan heavily laden with explosives into a mini-bus believed to be carrying foreign aviation workers to the airport in the Afghan capital early on Tuesday, killing at least nine people.

    Kabul police chief Gen Mohammad Ayub Salangi said the large explosion took place on an avenue northwest of the city centre near Kabul International Airport. The blast, which went off in front a gas station, was so powerful it hurled the mini-bus at least 50 meters.
